I have been a
car audio enthusiast ever since I owned my first vehicle. Below will be some of the projects I have
designed and built.
Figure 1 4-10" Woofers
This is a box I
built for a friend. 4 10” woofers in an
up-firing slot ported box tuned to 35 Hz to fit in the back of a SUV.
Figure 2 Nice Fit
The box fit
perfectly in the back of the vehicle
Figure 3 2-15" Woofers
This is a front
firing slot port box tuned to 30 Hz in the back of a 4-Runner I built that
holds 2 15” woofers. The extra boards in
the port allow for adjustable tuning.
For competition purposes you want to tune the port to higher
frequencies. For every day driving my
friends and I prefer lower frequencies, we like to feel the music. The
amplifiers and extra batteries are in the back of the vehicle behind the box in
an enclosed compartment.
Figure 4 Box Building
Here I am working on the box for my Scion-XB.
Figure 5 2-15" Woofers
The box installed in my Scion-XB with 2 15” woofers and a front firing
slot port tuned to 30 Hz. The extra
batteries are installed close to the amplifier acting as capacitors which
provide the power needed under heavy loads.
I can hit 155db at 30Hz with this setup.
My car audio
interests expanded into home theater applications.
My wife allowed
me to build a box and cut holes in the wall of our house for the home theater
sub system, I built a front firing slot port box for 2-15” woofers and tuned
the port to roughly 30 Hz for that low-end rumble.
As you can see
the completed project looks clean and it gives that low-end rumble I was
looking for while watching movies.
