Lab Report
Part 1:
- Draft schematics, layouts, and symbols for two inverters having sizes of 12u/6u (= width of the PMOS / width of the NMOS with both devices having minimum lengths of 0.6u)
- Draft schematics, layouts, and symbols for two inverters having sizes of 48u/24u where the devices use a multiplier, M = 4 (set along with the width and length of the MOSFET, image)
Part 2:- SPICE simulation of the operation of both inverters driving a 100f F capacitive load.
- the output of both inverters are simulated on the same plot to compare the results
- Input for both inveters is A (blue curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 12u/6u is Ai1 (red curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 48u/24u is Ai2 (purple curve)
- SPICE simulation of the operation of both inverters driving a 1pF capacitive load.
- the output of both inverters are simulated on the same plot to compare the results
- Input for both inveters is A (blue curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 12u/6u is Ai1 (red curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 48u/24u is Ai2 (purple curve)
- SPICE simulation of the operation of both inverters driving a 10p F capacitive load.
- the output of both inverters are simulated on the same plot to compare the results
- Input for both inveters is A (blue curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 12u/6u is Ai1 (red curve)
- Output of the inverter having size of 48u/24u is Ai2 (purple curve)
- SPICE simulation of the operation of both inverters driving a 100p F capacitive load.
- the output of both inverters are simulated on the same plot to compare the results

- Output of the inverter having size of 48u/24u is Ai2 (purple curve)
After
comparing the results of both inverters for the different loads, it
could be concluded that larger inverters switch faster than smaller
inverters. It could be clearly seen on the plots that the purple curve (of the 48/24 size inverter)
is always ahead of the red curve (of the 12/6 size inverter).
The following simulation are repeated using Ultrasim simulator
- The operation of both inverters driving a 100f F capacitive load.
- The operation of both inverters driving a 1p F capacitive load.
- The operation of both inverters driving a 10p F capacitive load.
- The operation of both inverters driving a 1p F capacitive load.
The
Ultrasim simulator is not as accurate as the Spectre simulator, however
it could be a very good option for bigger schematics.
