Review of basic RC circuits:
simulate and verify the results with experimental measurements for the
circuits seen in Figs. 1.21, 1.22, and 1.24 (1 pF capacitor replaced
with 1 uF) from the book.
Experiment 1 (Fig 1.21):
Schematic:
Hand calculations:
Simulations:
Experimental results:
| Calculations | Simualtions | Measurements |
Output (mV) | 663 | 621 | 640 |
Phase (deg) | -51.5 | -52.1 | -48.9 |
Time Delay (us) | -715 | -723 | -664 |
Comments: Hand
calculation and simulation results are relatively close. Internal
resistance within the function generator should be accounted for the
slight difference in the measured result.
Experiment 2 (Fig 1.22):
Schematic:
Hand calculations:
Simulations:
Experimental results:
| Calculations | Simulations | Measurements |
Output (mV) | 692 | 703 | 640 |
Phase (deg) | -6.86 | -6.91 | -6.24 |
Time Delay (us) | -95 | -96 | -112 |
Comments:
Similar to experiment 1, internal resistance within the lab equipment
should be accounted for. Note that the capacitor in parallel
contributed to a slightly higher output.
Experiment 3 (Fig 1.24):
Schematic:
Hand calculations:
Simulations:
Experimental results:
| Calculations | Simulations | Measurements |
t rise (ms) | 2.2 | 3 | 1.9 |
t fall (ms) | 2.2 | 3 | 2.5 |
time delay (ms) | 0.7 | .8 | .619 |
Comments: The time it takes the pulse to reach 50% of its final value is 0.7 ms.
